A 35-year-old Rockford man and a 26-year-old Alsip woman were arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia, after River Forest police responded to a call reporting that the man was using heroin in the bathroom of the Whole Foods Market at 7245 W. Lake St. at 4:58 p.m. on April 29. The man was found in possession of seven small bags containing heroin, and the female was found with small bags of heroin and three pipes used to ingest narcotics. Both were in possession of silver colored spoons, lighters and syringes. 

 

Theft

A Coach purse, containing a Coach wallet, cash, miscellaneous identification and prescription pills, was stolen from a shopping cart in the 6500 block of Roosevelt Road on May 7, sometime between 4:30 and 4:50 p.m. The total loss was an estimated $450.

 

Burglary to garage

A garage was burglarized in the 800 block of Wesley on May 4, sometime between 10:25 and 10:40 p.m. The offender entered the garage through an unlocked side service door and stole a green and silver Trek bicycle valued at $100.

 

Identity theft report

A woman reported that her identity was stolen after applying for a car loan, and discovering several fraudulent accounts were opened under her name and $12,300 worth of charges made through Kohl’s, Saks Fifth Avenue and Sam’s Club. River Forest officers responded to the call in the 400 block of Ashland at 6:52 p.m. on May 3. The victim is currently working with credit bureaus and the retail stores to resolve the issue.

 

Theft of a motor vehicle 

A black 2016 Chrysler 200 was stolen from the 900 block of South Humphrey on May 6, sometime between 12:30 and 8 a.m. The vehicle was valued at $25,000.

 

Theft from a motor vehicle

A gray and black iPod and a black Apple iPhone charger were stolen from the glove compartment of a Red Volvo XC90 in the 200 block of Lake, sometime between 9 a.m. on May 5 and 8 a.m. the next day. The loss was an estimated $85.

 

No license, warrant arrest

Juan Guevara-Ledezma, 42, of the 3000 block of Federal Boulevard, Denver, Colorado, was arrested on May 6 at 4:26 p.m. in the 6500 block of Roosevelt Road for driving without a valid driver’s license and subsequently found to have a fugitive from justice warrant from Colorado for kidnapping.

 

Retail theft arrest

River Forest police arrested a man suspected of shoplifting $330 worth of Crest Whitestrips at 11:11 a.m. on May 2, at the CVS Pharmacy at 7929 W. North Ave. The offender, Spann Tajak, 41, of Chicago, fled the store but was taken into custody at North and Forest. The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office approved one count of Class 3 felony retail theft.

 

Retail theft report

River Forest police responded to a call, at 12:47 a.m. on May 4, from the Jewel Foods, 7525 W. Lake St., after personnel related that $139 worth of Secret Deodorant was stolen from the store. Investigators are reviewing video from store surveillance cameras.

A man, reported to be between 50 and 60 years old, stole a Noco Genius battery charger from Batteries + Bulbs, 7111 W. North Ave., at approximately 4:34 p.m. on May 5. The offender then fled northbound on Harlem on a bicycle. The loss was $125.

 

These items, obtained from the Oak Park and River Forest police departments, came from reports, May 2-8, and represent a portion of the incidents to which police responded. Anyone named in these reports has only been charged with a crime and cases have not yet been adjudicated. We report the race of a suspect only when a serious crime has been committed, the suspect is still at large, and police have provided us with a detailed physical description of the suspect as they seek the public’s help in making an arrest.
