Irene DeCaro, 88, who lived in Oak Park for a very long time but most recently was a resident of Edgewood, New Mexico, died in her sleep on March 8, 2016. Irene and her husband, Tom, were the owners of the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed Hills-DeCaro House on Forest Avenue in Oak Park. They rebuilt the house after a devastating fire in 1976. It was renamed and is now a historical landmark.
She was active in Chicago Typographical Union #16, a life trustee of Fenwick High School, and supported Oak Park’s Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and PADS.
Irene DeCaro is survived by her children, Thomas A. DeCaro Jr. (Mary Ann) and Diane Runft (Bill); her grandchildren, Thomas III, Frank, Nicholas, Megan, and Katie; and her great-grandchild, Kalea. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Thomas DeCaro.
Private services will be held in Rio Rancho, New Mexico, followed by internment with her husband.
