Hazel D. Snover, 96, a 73-year resident of River Forest, died on Dec. 26, 2015 at Joliet Community Hospice after a brief illness. She was a crossing guard for the village of River Forest for over 30 years, crossing children of the village mainly at Park Avenue & Lake Street and Franklin Avenue & Washington Boulevard until her retirement in 1996.
Ms. Snover was a member of Forest Park VFW 7181 and the River Grove Moose Chapter 780. She lived life to its fullest and traveled often. She enjoyed senior outings to the gambling boats and was affectionately known by most as “Sunshine.” She will be missed by all who knew her for her bright smile and positive outlook on life.
Hazel Snover is survived by her son, Robert (Janice) Snover, her three grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Frank Snover; her daughter, Janice Balicki; and her granddaughter, Kristine.
Visitation was held on Dec. 28 at Woodlawn Funeral Home in Forest Park. Services took place on Dec. 29 at Woodlawn, followed by interment at Arlington Cemetery in Elmhurst. Arrangements were handled by Woodlawn Funeral Home. For more information, call 708-442-8500 or visit www.woodlawnchicago.com
