There’s really good fire in this column, Ken [Making sense of mass murder, Ken Trainor, Viewpoints, Oct. 7], and you’re right about gun regulation and enforcement.

Don’t you think our society also fails to ask seriously, why do we seem to accept as inevitable the creation of so many angry, isolated, and mentally unstable individuals?  We even seem to accept that this will increase, as if there is nothing that can be done about it.

More funding for therapy and mental health services would be important but won’t solve that problem. 

New (or renewed) kinds of deep, enduring community building, family formation, and individual spiritual practices are needed.
