Knife fight in the street
A 23-year-old Forest Park man was arrested on May 30 at 3:16 a.m. after he allegedly cut his friend several times during an altercation at the intersection of Park Avenue and Vine Street, according to River Forest police.
The two friends got into a verbal argument and then began to physically fight. The victim was cut several and treated for minor injuries. The offender was charged with misdemeanor battery and released on bond.
Family sleeps through burglary
A family living in the 600 block of Keystone Avenue slept soundly through early morning of May 20, while an unknown number of burglars crept around the residence, stealing thousands of dollars in cash and items, River Forest police reported.
The family called police at 8:13 a.m. when they awoke to discover several items missing, including $500, three laptops, two cellphones and several designer purses and wallets.
Oak Park police are searching for a white/Hispanic man in his 20s about 5-feet-10 inches tall who allegedly groped an Oak Park woman in the 900 block of Fair Oaks on June 14 at about 4:10 p.m.
Police report that the man, who was wearing a black hooded sweater and black/gray athletic shorts, approached the woman from behind and grabbed her buttocks and then fled the scene eastbound on Division Street.
Aggravated DUI arrest
Michael E. Cox, 41 of Stone Park, was arrested and charged with aggravated driving under the influence after he reportedly wrecked his car in the 300 block of Lathrop Avenue in River Forest. Police reported that Cox’s blood-alcohol content was more than twice the legal limit.
Police responded to the accident at 1:06 a.m. on May 21. Cox reportedly refused sobriety field tests and was arrested and taken to the station where a Breathalyzer test revealed his BAC was .169, more than double the .08 limit. He also was charged with driving without a license and several other traffic offenses.
A thief at Whole Foods Market, 7245 W. Lake St., River Forest, stole a woman’s wallet from her purse and then hightailed it to Hillside and Westchester where the cards were used at several locations, according to police.
The theft happened at 7:32 p.m. on May 22. The thief also stole the woman’s checkbook.
Edwin E. Chavarria, 38 of Elmwood Park, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence after River Forest police witnessed him commit several traffic violations near Harlem and Division at 3:37 a.m. on May 23.
According to police, he failed a field sobriety test and a Breathalyzer test put his blood alcohol content at .167, over twice the legal limit. He also was charged with DUI over .08 and several other traffic violations.
Retail theft arrest
Store security at Whole Food Market, 7245 W. Lake St., witnessed a 30-year-old Chicago man shoplift two tubes of ointment at 12:27 p.m. on May 27. The man was also found to be in possession of 7.8 grams of cannabis.
He was transported to the station and charged with retail theft and possession of cannabis.
These items, obtained from the Oak Park and River Forest police departments, came from reports filed June 9-16 and represent a portion of the incidents to which police responded. Anyone named in these reports has only been charged with a crime and cases have not yet been adjudicated. We report the race of a suspect only when a serious crime has been committed, the suspect is still at large, and police have provided us with a detailed physical description of the suspect as they seek the public’s help in making an arrest.
