Deno Andrews and Rev. Athanasios Papagiannis

It’s an age-old tradition for those of the Greek Orthodox faith, so on Friday morning, the owner of Felony Franks restaurant brought in a Greek Orthodox priest to bless his new business, which makes hiring felons part of its business model and marketing strategy.

Deno Andrews said Rev. Athanasios Papagiannis was invited to his hot dog stand at 6427 W. North Ave.

“They come in and bless the area and sprinkle holy water, burn incense and say some prayers,” Andrews said, noting that the holy water must then go into the ground, so they were used to water some plants in the back of the storefront.

The business has been open for about three months now, and Andrews said Felony Franks already has a five-star review on the crowd-sourced review website Yelp.

“The proof is in the pudding,” Andrews said of the restaurant’s success.
