Adel Atef

River Forest police arrested Adel Atef, 32 of Orland Park, on April 11 at 1:40 a.m. after a traffic stop in the 7200 block of Greenfield Street revealed the man was in possession of an open bottle of Remy Martin cognac, $3,390 and a loaded semi-automatic Beretta .380 pistol. 

A computer check on Atef showed that he is a convicted felon, making it illegal for him to be in possession of a firearm or ammunition. 

It was later determined that the pistol was stolen out of Gary, Indiana. He was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon. 

He also was charged with several misdemeanor charges including possession of a firearm, possession of firearm ammunition without a Firearm Owner Identification (FOID) card, and unlawful use of a weapon, according to police.

Burrito bandit on the loose

Oak Park police report that a man weighing approximately 150 pounds and wearing a black knit hat and a gray hooded sweatshirt stole a person’s unattended burrito in the 1100 block of South Boulevard on April 12 at approximately 6:25 p.m. The estimated loss was $6.50.

Theft

Unattended leaf blowers were stolen from an Elmwood Park resident’s truck in the 400 block of Washington Boulevard at approximately 5:30 p.m. on April 13, according to Oak Park police. The loss was estimated at $2,000.

Sections of copper downspout were stolen from buildings the 600 block and 900 block of Lake Street between April 10 and 14, Oak Park police report. A downspout was stolen from the exterior of a building in the 600 block of Lake Street sometime between 8:30 a.m. on April 10 and 8:30 a.m. on April 14. The estimated loss in that theft was $500. 

The second theft occurred in the 900 block of Lake Street, at Calvary Memorial Church, between 9 and 11:30 a.m. on April 14. Police report the estimated loss in that theft at $2,000.

Criminal damage to motor vehicle

A man with black hair and wearing a white and red Bulls baseball cap, a sweatshirt and blue jeans used an object to scratch the finish of the victim’s silver 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix, according to Oak Park police. 

The victim, a Plainfield resident, also had all four of their tires punctured. The incident occurred in the 400 block of Wisconsin Avenue at 11:43 p.m. on April 13, the police report stated. The estimated loss is $800.

Burglary

A residence in the 1000 block of South Taylor was burglarized between 7 p.m. and 11:25 p.m. on April 13, according to Oak Park police. The offender entered the garage of the residence through an unlocked side service door and stole a gray mountain bike valued at about $700.

A residence in 100 block of North Austin Boulevard was burglarized between 9 p.m. on April 13 and 7:30 a.m. on April 14, according to Oak Park Police. The offender entered the garage of the home through an unlocked side service door, gaining entry to a blue Toyota Yaris. There the offender stole a black handheld Yamaha music recorder and spare change from the center console. The estimated loss was $108, said police.

A 32-year-old Chicago woman was arrested in the 100 block of Lake Street and charged with residential burglary at 2:12 p.m. on April 16. 

A residence in the 1100 block of South Scoville Avenue was burglarized sometime between 7:30 p.m. on April 18 and 7:30 a.m. on April 19. The burglar gained entry to the victim’s garage by unknown means and stole a gray Tek 7500 bicycle, according to Oak Park police. The estimated loss was $480.

Battery arrest

A 23-year-old Maywood man was arrested on April 15 at 4:30 p.m. in the 800 block of Lake Street and charged with battery after throwing water from a water bottle at two juvenile victims, according to Oak Park police.

Burglary from a motor vehicle

A burglary occurred in the 100 block of South Lombard Avenue on April 15 between 9 a.m. and 5:45 p.m., according to Oak Park police. The offender gained access to the victim’s vehicle by means of an unlocked door and removed a Levi’s wallet containing $1,000, a driver’s license and state ID.

Theft of a motor vehicle

A silver 2006 Chrysler Town and Country was stolen from the 900 block of South Maple on April 15 between 9 a.m. and 6:48 p.m., according to Oak Park police. The vehicle was recovered in the 1300 block of Desplaines Avenue in Forest Park at 10 p.m. on April 15.

The vehicle was parked on the street when it was stolen, and it is unknown how the offender gained access to the vehicle. The loss was initially estimated at $5,000, according to Oak Park police.

A 2005 Ford Taurus was stolen from the 300 block of North Taylor Avenue at approximately 3:10 p.m. on April 19, according to Oak Park police. The offender entered the vehicle through an unlocked door and removed the vehicle with an ignition key that was left inside. The vehicle was later recovered in an alley in the 700 block of North Austin Boulevard.
