On April 7, River Forest voters will face a plethora of qualified candidates for the Village Board of Trustees — two incumbents, a former trustee, two exciting community activists, and a newbie with fine personal qualifications.

Selecting three candidates from this rich field is a difficult task. However, voters can’t go wrong by supporting incumbent Susan Conti, Patty Henek, and Rick Gillis.

Having served two terms on the board, Ms. Conti has a proven record of bringing Economic Development to River Forest and dealing with flooding problems on the north side of the village. Her experience, dedication, and knowledge are valuable assets which should not be discarded.

Community activists Patty Henek and Rick Gillis represent fresh perspectives which any board needs from time to time. Among her many activities, Henek has served as PTO president at both Lincoln and Roosevelt schools; Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Fundraising Chair; Holiday Food and Gift Basket Coordinator; Hephzibah Children’s Association assistant day care director; and a founding member of LemonAid. Rick Gillis has served on numerous village bodies, such as chairman of the Village Task Force to Study Flooding Issues; the Citizens Advisory Committee on Village Finances; the Traffic Control Task Force (seven years); and the Trinity High School Board of Directors. In 2009 he lost his bid for village trustee by only 16 votes.

These three public-spirited citizens will keep River Forest going in the right direction.
