Geraldine B. Janes, 88, who lived most of her life in the Oak Park area, died peacefully at Aperion Care in Forest Park on Feb. 23, 2015. Born on Aug. 22, 1926, she loved music, had a beautiful voice and loved to sing. During World War II, she sang with the Chicago Women’s Symphony at Navy Pier. She worked at Sears Roebuck in Chicago for many years.

Many might remember her walking her beloved dogs around Mills Park Tower, where she lived happily for many of her later years. She had a hearty laugh, was alert and could deliver a witty comeback almost until the last week of her life. A member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church of Oak Park, she was deeply grateful for the love she received from that community: the rides to church in the past, and the cards, news, and visits in her later years.

Her family appreciates the kindness of many people and the good care she received both at Mills Park Tower and at Berkshire/Aperion Care Forest Park.

Geraldine Jones is survived by a loving family of many nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, and her dear friend, Ilse Elander and Ilse’s son, Eric Elander, his daughter and granddaughter, all of Bella Vista, Arkansas. She was preceded in death by her parents, stepmother, one brother and three sisters.

A visitation and prayer service will be held at Ivins Funeral Home, 80 E. Burlington St. in Riverside on Saturday, Feb. 28 from 3 to 5 p.m., followed by interment at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.
