Chester M. Kohl, 99, a 55-year resident of Oak Park, died on Feb. 2, 2015 in Bettendorf, Iowa. Born on May 16, 1915 in Chicago to Alex and Valeria Kohl, he was a graduate of Froebel Elementary and Crane Technical High School in Chicago and received his degree in mechanical engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology.
Mr. Kohl worked for many years as an engineer and was the chief tool engineer and assistant works manager for the Goss Printing Press Co. in Cicero until his retirement in 1976.
He enjoyed golf, gardening and for many years was active with Junior Achievement and the St. Bernardine’s Men’s Club.
Chester Kohl is survived by his children, Denise (Jerome) Sechser, Ray (Harpal) Kohl, Therese (James) Juliano and Margo (Dr. Randall) Miller; his grandchildren, Dr. Todd (Cara) Sechser, Erik Sechser, Jill Sechser, Jamie Juliano, Jeffrey (Jenny) Juliano, Dr. Megan (Dr. Christopher) Reis, and Matthew (Emily) Miller; and his nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 74 years, Juanita, who died on July 27, 2014; and by his son, Kevin Kohl.
Visitation was held on Feb. 9 at Drechsler, Brown & Williams Funeral Home in Oak Park. A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Bernardine Church on Feb. 10, followed by interment at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.
