Officials from both Districts 97 and 200 have confirmed that all classes and after school activities have been canceled Wednesday, Jan. 7.

“According to the National Weather Service Wind Chill Chart […] it will take less than 15 minutes for frostbite to set in if the temperatures on Wednesday reach the predicted 30 to 35 degrees below zero with the wind chill. With this in mind, we strongly recommend you avoid spending extended time outside if possible,” read a statement from D97.

Due to the closing of Oak Park River Forest High School, “the deadline for teachers to submit semester one grades has been extended to 11:59 p.m. on Thurs., Jan 8. Therefore, family access to student grades via Family Access has been pushed back a day, to Fri. Jan. 9,” read a statement released by D200.

Since the frigid temperatures and dangerous wind-chill factor are forecasted to linger through Thursday, district officials will continue to monitor weather events to decide on next steps beyond Wednesday. D200 officials said that they “will notify families and staff whether school is open or closed on Thursday,” according to a statement.
