“Love is Strange” (R/140 min) tells the story of Ben (John Lithgow) and George (Alfred Molina) who tie the knot in an idyllic wedding ceremony after spending nearly four decades together. But when George loses his job soon after, the couple must sell their New York City apartment and temporarily live apart until they can find an affordable new home. While George moves in with two cops who live downstairs, Ben lands in Brooklyn with his nephew, his wife and their temperamental teenage son, with whom Ben shares a bunk bed. While struggling with the pain of separation, Ben and George are further challenged by the intergenerational tensions and capricious family dynamics of their new living arrangements.
The “Love is Strange” film was recently nominated for a “Spirit Award” under the “Best Feature” category.
On the first Tuesday of each month, Lake Theatre presents afternoon and evening screenings of documentary, foreign, art or classic films at 12 PM and 7 PM.
The program includes an advisory board, currently consisting of local residents Bobbie Raymond, Susie Helfrich and Mary Kay O’Grady, along with Shirley Johnson of Classic Cinemas, who collaborate on film selection.
