The OPRF High School Hockey Club, Fenwick Girls Hockey and the Park District of Oak Park’s Ice Bears Hockey Club are partnering to fight hunger on Sat., Dec. 6. Residents in Oak Park and River Forest are asked to place non-perishable food items on their front porches by 10 a.m. on December 6 in bags marked “FOOD PANTRY.”
Volunteers from the hockey community will deliver donated items to the Oak Park River Forest Food Pantry. Food is also being collected at the Ridgeland Common Recreation Complex through Sunday night. Food items urgently needed for local families includes pasta, canned soup, cereals, peanut butter, rice and beans.
Food drives, especially during the holiday season, are important to help meet the demand of local families in need. And despite a recovering economy, the Oak Park River Forest Food Pantry will serve over 10,000 families in 2014.
Last year, the Hockey Checks Hunger Food Drive collected over five tons of food. The Huskies and Ice Bears are asking everyone in Oak Park and River Forest to help provide even more food for families in need during the 2014 holiday season. Visit OPRFHockey.com for more information.
