The holidays are a time of year filled with family obligations, presents to wrap and preparations to be made. Before you get buried in the hustle and bustle, the Oak Park River Forest Infant Welfare Society (IWS) invites you to bring some fun to the start of the holiday season, all while benefitting children in need. Want to start the holidays full of good spirits and good cheer? The IWS has five ideas for you.

  1. Attend the Holiday Market Preview Party on Thursday night, and the Market on Friday night at Oak Park’s Nineteenth Century Club for a fun night out. Whether it’s a girl’s night out, a date night or just some holiday shopping, you’ll enjoy specialty cocktails and beverages as well as appetizers and music. Try out the Whiskey Tasting on Friday evening.

  2. Get a jump on your holiday shopping. Artisans at the Holiday Market will be on hand offering one-of-a-kind items such as clothing, home décor, jewelry, holiday decorations and gourmet food products. Elves will be on hand to wrap gift items and shoppers can create wish lists to help their significant others find the perfect gift. Good Earth Greenhouse is creating unique wreaths for your home, and raffle tickets will be on sale to win one of five themed Celebration Tablescapes, providing the winners with complete table settings for eight.

  3. Gather holiday decorating inspiration. Get exclusive glimpses into five Oak Park and River Forest homes on Friday night and Saturday afternoon. The historic homes are beautiful in any season, but even more so when decorated for the holidays. Prepare to be wowed and come away with some new ideas for your own home.

  4. Join in the community spirit of the holidays. The Holiday Market Preview Party on Thursday, December 4 will be a part of Downtown Oak Park’s Three Thursdays in December community nights out. On Saturday the Holiday Market will be a stop on the Downtown Oak Park Winterfest cookie walk.

  5. Share the spirit of the holiday. As the IWS’s biggest fundraiser of the year, the Holiday Housewalk and Market is integral to funding the IWS’s Children’s Clinic which offers medical, dental and behavioral services to children in need, serving over 3,200 children a year in 50 plus surrounding communities, including Oak Park.

Now in its sixteenth year, the IWS Holiday Housewalk and Market provides a complete holiday experience over the course of the weekend.
