Oak Park, IL – The classic holiday movie “White Christmas” (G/120 min) starring Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye will be presented free on Saturday, December 6th at 10 a.m. at the Lake Theatre, 1022 Lake Street, Oak Park. Stop across the street from the Lake to pick up your free ticket at the Community Bank of Oak Park River Forest, the sponsors of this annual event.
Having left the Army following World War II, Bob Wallace (Crosby) and Phil Davis (Kaye) team up to become a top song-and-dance act. Davis plays matchmaker and introduces Wallace to a pair of beautiful sisters, Betty and Judy, who also have a song-and-dance act. When Betty and Judy travel to a Vermont lodge to perform a Christmas show, Wallace and Davis follow, only to find their former commander, General Waverly, as the lodge owner. A series of romantic mix-ups ensue as the performers try to help the general. “White Christmas” features the songs of Irving Berlin, including the classic title song, “White Christmas.”
Prior to the presentation of White Christmas, Community Bank will be accepting donated gifts on behalf of Bethel New Life, and attendees are encouraged to bring a gift. The gifts will then go to families in need on the West Side of Chicago. Bethel New Life is a nonprofit organization located at 4950 W. Thomas, Chicago. All donated gifts must be new and should not be wrapped. The most popular donations last year were electronic and educational games for toddlers, toys, African American Barbie dolls, board games, winter gear for all ages and genders, bed sheets, bath and body products, housewares, Walmart gift cards and books. Collected gifts will be donated to Bethel’s annual Christmas Store, which is designed to give families a way to purchase Christmas gifts with dignity. Donated gifts are sold at the Christmas Store to families for an affordable price: $1, $5, or $10. The proceeds enable Bethel to support their childhood education program for families in need on the West Side of Chicago.
This is the sixth consecutive year Community Bank is presenting a holiday film classic at the Lake Theatre. Last year over 500 guests attended the event, which is quickly becoming a community favorite. “Lots of families like to attend, and it’s great to see children with their parents and grandparents all celebrating the holiday season. By presenting White Christmas, Community Bank is able to give something back during the holidays as a special thank you to the community,” said Walter Healy, President of Community Bank.
