There are not many communities the size of Oak Park, River Forest and Austin that can boast two community hospitals. But between Rush Oak Park Hospital and West Suburban Medical Center, our villages benefit in so many ways from these institutions: access to health care, hundreds on hundreds of jobs, property taxes and continuing investments.
This Saturday, West Suburban will celebrate its 100th anniversary with a day of events, recollections and looking to the future. West Sub has been in some state of flux over the past 15 years with various mergers and ownership changes. But the hospital has persevered and in a time of perpetual change in health care delivery remains a vital community hospital and a key institutional presence in our community.
