I was very saddened when I read the terrible comments about the new executive director for the Animal Care League, Kira Robson. I met and worked with Kira several years ago when I volunteered for Paws Chicago and was amazed by her love for and dedication to the dogs she worked with. She was highly respected by her peers there and at Chicago Animal Control.
Kira has already made some positive changes at ACL in her short time:
1) The shelter is open more days for adoption now, including Saturdays and Sundays.
2) No longer automatically euthanizing FIV cats but instead, finding them homes.
3) A panel of three, not one person, discuss the reasons for or against euthanizing an animal.
4) Getting ready to start a therapy dog program so ACL can bring dogs to visit the residents at our local retirement communities. (We tried this three weeks ago with Red, our old, blind pit bull and it was a wonderful success!)
Having more than 20 years’ experience working in shelters, along with her marketing degree, Kira is highly qualified to bring more positive changes to the ACL. Let’s help her to make our shelter the best it can be!
