In your editorial about his commencement speech [About that speech, Our Views, Viewpoints, June 11], I was truly surprised to read a reference to Steve Gevinson’s “penchant for self-promotion and the tone-deafness that sometimes follows that penchant.”
Steve is such a quiet and modest person, it’s hard to understand how he could be considered a self-promoter. Far from being tone-deaf, he is also an excellent listener who carefully considers others’ opinions.Â
When he told graduating seniors to “listen to all voices,” he was recommending a practice that he follows himself.
I am saddened that someone I so respect has been so misunderstood.
