Last Thursday, an overflow crowed of roughly 100 residents packed the River Forest Village Hall board room and spilled into the hallway. About 25 spoke against issuing a special-use permit to EMSL, a lab that works with toxic materials.

Jennifer Moore, who has been leading this charge (see letter in Viewpoints, p. 26), said, “I have neighbors who live less than 100 feet from the back door of this potential lab where delivery trucks will be dropping off samples of contaminants.”

The hearing went on for about three hours. The Zoning Board of Appeals decided to continue it until June 12.

“Understandably,” Moore said, “they didn’t want a sleepover.”
