These villages have long done well by our elders. The township government, local park districts, the community center in Forest Park and a whole array of social service agencies and businesses focus deserved attention on seniors.

Still it doesn’t hurt to choose a single week in May in which we turn full focus on the people who have built our communities through their service and commitment. And that week is here. Celebrating Seniors is now in its fourth year and it continues to grow in size and activity.

The annual resource guide was distributed in last week’s Journal. Today a complete two-page list of all the activities is included in our Calendar section. Events take place at 22 different venues across the three villages. And the week closes on May 22 with a luncheon at Concordia featuring television journalist Harry Porterfield.

An impressive effort led by a determined group of volunteers, Celebrating Seniors is a worthy project.
