MiniAbe travels all over Illinois. You may have seen him gazing at the Chicago skyline from Oak Street Beach or kneeling in front of the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library Foundation in Springfield, Ill. on the Enjoy Illinois commercials.

Now, MiniAbe is coming to Oak Park in May.

Here is a brief Q & A with Emily Sjostrom, Visit Oak Park Marketing Manager about MiniAbe’s upcoming visit:

Ashley Lisenby: When will MiniAbe be coming to visit?

Emily Sjostrom: MiniAbe’s official Oak Park Area Visit is Sunday, May 4th – Saturday, May 10th

AL: What are some of the Oak Park locations he’ll be visiting?

ES: He will be visiting some of the Area attractions like Hemingway, Pleasant Home, the Conservatory and will also take advantage of the smaller locally owned businesses like Competitive Foot, Greenline Wheels, Barclay’s American grill AND he’s going to the Lake Theatre where they are “featuring” a “MiniAbe in Oak Park” movie!

AL: Was Oak Park selected by Enjoy Illinois or did the village inquire about being featured?

ES: Visit Oak Park is a 501©6 non-profit Tourism Bureau representing Oak Park and the other surrounding 20 communities in Western Cook County.  MiniAbe is a campaign run by the Illinois Office of Tourism, where MiniAbe visits one CVB [Convention & Visitors Bureau] a week to see what the area has to offer.

Visit Oak Park requested MiniAbe travel to our area to see what we have to offer!  His trip will be linkable to our social media outlets as well as the Illinois Office of Tourism (Enjoy Illinois) and the MiniAbe campaign.  It’s campaigns like these that really allow the Oak Park Area to be involved in larger State of Illinois Tourism initiatives.

AL: Any costs or expenses involved in MiniAbe coming to visit?

ES: MiniAbe is a guest of Visit Oak Park and of course would not incur any costs as we would like him to fully experience the Oak Park Area!  (Visit Oak Park also will have no out of pocket costs!)

AL: When will residents be able to see the MiniAbe photos on social media?

ES: MiniAbe’s trip will be documented as he is out and about! May 4-10 you can see what MiniAbe is up to at the Visit Oak Park Facebook page, facebook.com/oakparkIL
