Congratulations to Fenwick High School softball player Jenna Cairo, the Midtown Athletic Club Athlete of the Week.

The senior center fielder is the Friars’ leadoff hitter and an excellent defender. Cairo is hitting .525 with five home runs, 16 RBIs, 20 runs scored, a .567 on base percentage and a .918 slugging percentage. She’s also one of the team’s leaders and unquestioned spark plug.

“Jenna works very hard at her game and is a tremendous team leader,” Fenwick coach Mike Marrese said. “She sets a great example for the younger players to follow.”

Next season, she’ll take her talents to Romeoville to play softball for Lewis University.

“I feel like Lewis University is the best fit for me academically and athletically,” Cairo said. “My focus now though is going on another deep run in the playoffs like we did last season at Fenwick.”

The Midtown Athletic Club Athlete Feature, The Midtown Athletic Club Athlete of the Week and weekly sports calendar/scoreboard are sponsored by Midtown Athletic Club in Oak Park.
