Lorraine M. Toberman, 91, a longtime Oak Park resident, died at Rush Oak Park Hospital on March 6, 2014. Born on Jan. 9, 1923 in Berwyn to Fred and Theresa (Hermanek) Kebschull, she attended elementary school there and graduated from J. Sterling Morton High School in Cicero. Later that year, she began working as a teller for Home Federal Savings and Loan, a position she held for the next five years.
She married Harold Toberman, of Chicago, on April 25, 1944 while he was on military furlough. They lived in Palos Park from 1946 until 1957 before moving to Oak Park. In the mid-1960s, she returned to work at Village Savings and Loan and then Hinsdale Federal Savings until her retirement.
She was active in Cub Scouting as a den mother, in the Washington Irving School PTA, and as a grade school room mother.
Lorraine Toberman is survived by her sons, Hal (Linda) Toberman, U.S. Army (Lt. Colonels Ret.) Wayne (Sherry) Toberman; her grandchildren, Jeffrey Toberman, Christine (Phil) Knox, John Toberman, Alexis Toberman, Victoria Toberman, and West Point graduate 1st Lt. U.S. Army Peter Toberman; her great-granddaughters Allison and Julia Knox; her brother, Fred Kebschul; and her loving caregiver, Marissa Cortez. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Eleanor.
Visitation will be held at Drechsler, Brown and Williams Funeral Home, 203 S. Marion St. in Oak Park on Wednesday, March 12 from 3 to 9 p.m., with a service at the funeral home on Thursday, March 13 at 10 a.m., followed by interment at Concordia Cemetery in Forest Park.
