Congratulations to Fenwick swimmer Zach Tieke, the Wednesday Journal’s Athlete of the Week sponsored by Midtown Athletic Club.
Tieke won the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 48.23 seconds at a home triangular against St. Ignatius and Brother Rice last week. He also swam a leg on each of the Friars’ relay teams, which yielded first place in the 200 relay (1:29.39) and a pair of runner-up finishes in the 200 medley (1:41.14) and 400 free (3:18.00).
Last year, Tieke teamed with Justin White, Tommy McGuire and Mike Hill to place second in the 200 free relay (1:24.16) trailing only state champion Hinsdale Central at the IHSA state finals hosted by New Trier.
