A small white dog, found in November of 2013, is recuperating at a medical foster home after being treated at the Animal Care League.

Theresa, a Shih Tzu mix, was found with matted coat of hair and unable to walk, squirmed forward “army crawl”-style, according to a recent press release.

In addition to her injuries, it became apparent that Theresa had also been nursing puppies.

At the time of her arrival, a resident cat was only able to feed two of her eight kittens, so ACL veterinarian Mary Eisenlor introduced the six unfed kittens to Theresa and the kittens immediately began to nurse.

Around six-weeks of age the kittens were able to eat on their own and were placed in foster homes.

Theresa now has about 90 percent usage of her back legs and is in a medical foster home, said canine foster coordinator Katy Gilbert. She is also being treated for bladder stones.

The ACL is currently raising funds, with a goal of $10,000, to benefit the Animal Care League Medical Fund. As of Jan. 28, the organization raised over $2,500.
