Kenneth David "Ken" Van Wieren

Kenneth David “Ken” Van Wieren, 58, of St. Petersburg, Fla., formerly of St. Louis, Chicago and Oak Park, died suddenly on Dec. 16, 2013. Born in Holland, Mich., on Nov. 14, 1955, he was the third child of Elaine (Hemwall) 

and Kenneth H. Van Wieren. He graduated from Oak Park and River Forest High School and studied political science and ran track at Blackburn College in Carlinville. He lived in the St. Louis area for 18 years, working for A.G. Edwards. He had a wide variety of interests, including baseball, photography, wildlife, music and politics. Most recently, he was working for the Transportation Security Administration and studying criminal law in the St. Petersburg, Fla. area. 

Ken Van Wieren is survived by his mother, Elaine (John Hemwall); his siblings, Billie (Joseph Jordan), Laurie (Chris Holman), Nancy, Christopher (Theresa), and Abigail (Patrick Strader); his niece Rachel Van Wieren; his nephew, Andrew Van Wieren; his uncles, Richard “Buzz” and Alan Hemwall; and his loving friends in the Oak Park area. He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth. 

A memorial service will be held on Jan. 25 at 10:30 a.m. in the Dan McClure Auditorium within the Sarasota Bradenton International Airport in Sarasota, Fla. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the Ken Van Wieren Scholarship Fund at Blackburn College, 700 College Ave. in Carlinville, IL 62626, attention: Development Office.
