OAK PARK, Ill. – On Saturday, Oct. 19th, 2013, PCC Community Wellness Center (PCC) will host its 4th Annual Fundraising Gala, “Oh Baby! An Evening of Motown Memories.” The festivities will be held at the beautiful Oak Park Country Club and will feature cocktails, dinner, and a raffle. Attendants will sing and dance along with local band, V. Holmes & the Fellas, also known for entertaining President Obama at the Illinois Senate Presidential Inaugural Celebration in 2013.
All proceeds from the event will benefit Illinois’ first free-standing birth center, housed at PCC South Family Health Center in Berwyn. As a Federally Qualified Health Center, PCC cares for an underserved and low-income patient population who are offered full-scope midwifery and obstetric care. Expectant parents interested in natural birth will soon have the option of delivering at the birth center; water birth will be available.
A birth center is an integrated part of the health care system that proves to be a safe option for qualifying women. Midwifery-led care at birth centers lowers risk of Cesarean birth and various complications for both mother and baby. Birth centers are associated with decreased health care expenses, including lower patient costs.
PCC anticipates support for this project with the attendance of up to 250 physicians, health care providers, and prominent civic and business leaders, in addition to PCC staff and local supporters from Chicago and the Oak Park-River Forest area. Members of the Health & Medicine Policy Research Group and Senate President John J. Cullerton will be recognized for their contributions in acquiring state approval for free-standing birth centers.
