Oak Park, IL – The Pleasant District Family Triathlon (PDFT) will be twice as much fun this year. Registration doubled since the inaugural event in 2012. Taking place Sunday, September 29, 2013, the PDFT will have participants swimming, biking, and running through the Pleasant District beginning at 7am. Similar to last year, the event will begin with a swim at the West Cook YMCA, transition to cycling around the perimeter of the business district, and finish with a run on Marion St. between Randolph and South Blvd. Athletes will compete in teams of two and will range in age, some as young as 7 years old.

While registration has already closed, there are still ways to get involved with this year’s PDFT. Volunteers are still needed to help set-up and facilitate the event. All volunteers will receive a free t-shirt as well as a catered brunch afterwards. Please visit the Greenline Wheels website to sign up to volunteer. For those unable to volunteer, you are invited to cheer! Bring your cowbells, whistles and megaphones to energize the participants from the sidelines!

As the biking portion of the event will take place on the streets bordering the Pleasant District, there are added safety and traffic considerations. Streets around the business district will be closed or partially closed for the duration of the event. Residents and visitors of the district are encouraged to note a street closures map (right) when parking their cars Saturday night, September 28, 2013.

The PDFT isn’t the only kid-friendly event going on in the District on Sunday. After the festivities of the triathlon are over, families are invited to head to Pleasant Home. From 1pm to 3pm Pleasant Home will host their annual Children’s Day. This free family event is always well attended and a great way to spend the afternoon.
