The Fenwick High School football team made it a point to enjoy its trip to Dallas this week. More importantly, the Friars visited the lone star state with one objective in mind: defeat Bishop Lynch. Mission accomplished Friday night as Fenwick notched a 32-14 win over host Bishop Lynch, a private Catholic School founded in 1963 by the same Dominican order as Fenwick
Fenwick senior running back Robert Spillane dominated the action with 220 yards rushing and three touchdowns on 17 carries. Tight end Ryan Smith also starred offensively for the Friars pulling down three catches for 66 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Senior quarterback Gino Cavalieri directed the Friars’ offense beautifully, finishing 10-of-12 for 132 yards passing and two touchdowns.
Rich Schoen, who had three sacks last week against St. Joseph, turned in another stellar performance with a team-high 11 tackles. Aaron Garland and Scott Stibich had an interception each and Mike Kozyra blocked a Bishop Lynch punt.
Fenwick (2-0), which spoiled the 50th anniversary celebration of Bishop Lynch, now turns its attention to Catholic League crossover rival Brother Rice. The Friars and host Crusaders square off Friday (Sept. 13).
