COURTESY OF COMMUNITY BANK
Oak Park, IL–Community Bank of Oak Park River Forest is pleased to announce that Ashunti Residential Management Systems is the recipient of Community Bank’s Champion Grant. The purpose of the Champion Grant is to assist organizations in providing community outreach programs for low or moderate income individuals.
Ashunti Residential Management Systems is a local nonprofit multi-social service agency that advocates on behalf of underserved members of the Austin Community on the Westside of Chicago. Their mission is to help people reclaim their dignity and to become self sufficient. Ashunti houses 16 men and 21 women who suffer from a myriad of difficulties including substance abuse, mental illness, HIV/AIDS, childhood physical and sexual abuse, domestic violence, rape and illiteracy. Most members are ex-offenders, and all are homeless. While staying at Ashunti, residents are required to attend meetings which focus on financial literacy, domestic violence, substance abuse, anger management and job searching skills.
Community Bank was happy to present the Champion Grant in the form of three new computers for Ashunti’s job placement program. The three computers will allow residents to conduct online job searches, communicate with prospective employers, prepare resumes and fill out online job applications. The three computers were presented to Regina Lewis, CEO of Ashunti, on Friday, July 19. Bernard D. Headley II, Community Lending Specialist for Community Bank, presented the grant, and Anthony Brinker of Community Bank personally installed the computers. More information about Ashunti is available on their website at www.ashuntirms.org.
