Police responded to the scene of an accident June 2 at the intersection of Chicago and Harvey around 5 p.m. The driver of a Chevy Trailblazer allegedly hit a Ford Escape in the first block of Chicago Avenue going westbound. As he allegedly fled the scene of the accident, police said he veered into the eastbound lane and sideswiped a Chrysler before bashing into a village-owned fence on the northwest corner of Harvey and came to rest on its roof.
Police arrested the driver, Benjamin E. Bailey, 36, of the 900 block of Mayfield, Chicago and charged him with leaving the scene of an accident, reckless driving, traffic violations and damage to village property. Bailey was transported with injuries to Loyola Medical Center in Maywood.
