I want to thank the voters of Oak Park and River Forest who expressed confidence in me to represent them on the District 200 Board of Education. I will do my best, as I repeated throughout the campaign, to help improve our excellent, comprehensive public high school while striving not to overburden taxpayers.

I also want to thank my superb campaign team and the many loyal volunteers and supporters who helped get the message out in the many ways that one does in a local campaign. Major thanks, too, to the scores of generous donors who fully funded the campaign, a grassroots effort by a bunch of amateurs.

In particular, I’m deeply grateful to all the members of the school community who encouraged me to give it a try and gave me much needed moral support along the way: students, alumni, parents, faculty, staff, retired faculty, DOOPers, and current and ex-board members.

I appreciated the efforts of all the candidates who vied for seats. It was a most civil process, and the caliber of candidates demonstrates, I think, that democracy is alive and well in our community. I benefited greatly from the exchange of ideas, the camaraderie we developed over the course of the campaign, the process itself.

Congratulations to Tom Cofsky, Jackie Moore, and Jeff Weissglass, fellow members-elect. It was a pleasure to get to know them on the trail, and it will be a privilege to serve with them, as well as with the remaining board members.

I have a special appreciation, too, for Terry Finnegan’s willingness to serve again and am truly sorry that the district will lose his experience, knowledge, temperament, and judgment.

Such a campaign is many things but certainly a humbling experience. I will strive to serve with clear purpose and humility.
