Margot E. Clayton of Oak Park died on March 18, 2013. Born in Oak Park on April 26, 1943 to the late Bernard and Leila Kinsala, she was raised in the Austin area, graduated from Austin High School and in 1965 from Cornell College. An early teaching opportunity at a U.S. Air Force base in England afforded her a chance to meet Raymond E. K. Clayton. They were married outside London on April 28, 1969.
Returning to Chicago she taught in the Chicago Public Schools system. Later she tutored privately, taught child safety and developed after-school programming in the Oak Park schools, beginning with Hatch Elementary School.
She was an active member of the League of Women Voters and also served on the Oak Park Township Youth Services Committee and the 19th Century Charitable Foundation. She was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church of River Forest.
Margot Clayton is survived by her daughter, Amy (Will) Hansmann; her grandchildren, Keith and Kyle Hansmann of River Forest; her sister, Norma Blanchard (Robert Burchill) of Oak Park; and her nephew, Douglas (Colleen) Blanchard, and nieces, Lauren (David) McCarthy and Jennifer (Donald) Frey. She was preceded in death by her husband in 2000.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, March 23, at First Presbyterian Church of River Forest, 7551 Quick Ave., River Forest.
