Dear Friends and Neighbors:

As the parent of a graduating senior, I have direct experience with Oak Park River Forest High School. My daughter had a wonderful experience at the high school that has prepared her for matriculation at some of the nation’s best colleges. I am passionately committed to the belief that all students, regardless of their backgrounds, deserve an academically and intellectually fulfilling experience at OPRF and that their high school experience prepares them for future success. I believe:

  • All OPRFHS students benefit from attending a public school with an economically and racially diverse student body.
  • The school district has a responsibility to make sound fiscal decisions in order to maintain the quality of educational programming over the long-term.
  • My educational background, professional experience, and commitment to educational equity make me an excellent candidate to achieve these goals as a member of the OPRFHS Board.

I have lived in Oak Park for more than 20 years and am active in the community. I serve on the Park District of Oak Park Citizen Committee (PDCC), and I volunteer at the Animal Care League and the Food Pantry. I recently finished my doctorate in education; my dissertation was a case study of a high achieving school that serves low-income African American students and that is closing the achievement gap. For the past 14 years I worked for an arts education organization that serves the Chicago Public Schools, and I worked in more than 80 public school across the city every year. I now run my own consulting firm.

I look forward to bring that experience to our community, and I ask for your vote on April 9, 2013.
