On Monday, Feb. 4, I was negotiating a snow bank at the curb in the 900 block of Madison Street in Oak Park. I stepped up (misjudging the exact location of the snow-covered curb) and quickly found myself sprawled on the sidewalk. Within a few minutes one gentleman and then another came to my aid.

While I thanked them for their help, I should have thanked them a thousand times since I realize now there was no way I would have been able to get up by myself. As we age, we learn our limitations the hard way — and are always surprised.

It is my hope that, if you publish this letter, those kind people might see it and know how grateful I am.
