Editor’s note: River Forest resident Paul Kent’s 9-year-old (adopted, African-American) daughter wrote the following in her third-grade class at Lincoln Elementary School. The teacher, Ms. Nichols, asked the class to write about who they wished they could invite to Thanksgiving dinner:
I would invite Barack Obama and Abraham Lincoln because they are my true heroes. Abraham Lincoln because he ended slavery. If he hadn’t been president then, I would be someone who would be in slavery. Barack because he won against Mitt Romney. I don’t like him because of what he said. Barack gave a great speech.
