Los Lobos was there. Right there. You could practically touch them. On Friday, Oct. 12, nearly 400 people gathered at FitzGerald’s to dance to the fantastic tunes of Los Lobos while celebrating the 35th anniversary of Oak Park-River Forest Food Pantry.
Most importantly, the event raised enough money to provide a week’s worth of meals for 10,000 people. This could not have happened without the tireless efforts of our board members and volunteers, and the generous support of the event sponsors and raffle-prize donors.
On behalf of the entire board and staff of Oak Park-River Forest Food Pantry, we thank all the people involved in making this event a wild success.
We owe a debt of gratitude to a special group: Scott and Julie Moller of the Moller Family Foundation brought us Los Lobos — the best anniversary present ever! Sergio Sanchez from The Grill in the Park provided the delectable food, and Reuter’s Bakery provided the scrumptious desserts. Our friends at the Sugar Beet Co-op helped to make this a zero-waste event and Peggy Gilmore crafted the beautiful event programs, T-shirts and invitations.
The event was run by the pantry volunteer corps and the indefatigable Jen Mistak. We cannot thank them enough for their countless hours of generous service.
Last month we had the privilege of providing a week’s worth of food to 1,493 families. That we are able to do this month-in and month-out is thanks to this incredible community.
Thank you, Oak Park and River Forest, for celebrating our 35th anniversary with us.
