Three of the five families at Beye School who requested a transfer to send their kids to another Oak Park school have rescinded that request, according to District 97 officials.

In all, five children were requesting transfers, but three of the families have opted to keep their kids at Beye. Of the remaining students, one child has been transferred to another D97 school; one other child’s transfer is pending, said D97 spokesperson Chris Jasculca.

The requests were offered to parents by the district after some Beye students failed to meet reading and math standards on state performance tests. Hatch or Whittier were the two transfer schools available to parents. The “school choice” option is required under the federal No Child Left Behind law.
