Carroll Smith, an Oak Park resident, R.N., and clinical assistant professor on the faculty in the College of Nursing at UIC is in Rwanda to begin a year’s work there.

Supported by a grant from the Clinton Foundation, approximately 80 health professionals (doctors, nurses, midwives, etc.) from all over the U.S. will go to Rwanda each year for eight years to help the people of that country upgrade their nursing and medical schools, educate their health professionals better and begin to re-organize their health care system.

She has already started a blog: carrolinrwanda.blogspot.com. If you visit the site, you’ll see a couple of photos of her with President Clinton. Smith says she will celebrate her 70th birthday in Rwanda, then return to Oak Park next July and return to UIC for the next academic year.
