Bernarr Sumner Wixon, 100, formerly of Westchester and Riverside, died on May 29, 2012. A retired buyer for Sears Roebuck & Co., he was a member of the Riverside Township Lions, the Riverside Chapter Lyric Opera of Chicago, and the Riverside Dance Club. He excelled in sports, including fencing, golf, softball, and boating and was an award-winning grower of African Violets.
Bernie Wixon is survived by his companion, Lois Starbuck; his children, David (Barbara) and Susan (Joe) Gressel; his grandchildren, Amy (Chris) Wallace, Jim O’Toole, Jeff (Sarah) Wixon, Jaron (Amanda) Gressel, and Rachel and Sam Gressel; his great-grandchildren, Colin, Sean and Luke Wallace, Noah and Fiona Wixon and Madalyn Gressel; his nieces and nephews, Samantha, Tom and Will Wixon; and his brother, Glenn. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marion “Billie” (nee McCone), and his brother, Howard.
Services were held at First Presbyterian Church in River Forest, followed by interment at Bronswood. Arrangements were handled by Ivans/Moravecek Funeral Home.
