Theft
By possible use of a spare key, someone removed a tan 1998 Toyota Camry from the 1200 block of North Harvey Avenue, the morning of May 15. Estimated loss is $8,000.
Someone removed a green and black Mongoose bicycle from inside a storage room in the 400 block of South Lombard Avenue, the evening of May 15. The male offender was last seen with the bike heading southbound on Austin Boulevard. Estimated loss is $140.
An unknown person broke the lock to a rear gate in the 1200 block of Rossell Avenue and removed a Trek 700 bicycle and attached nylon saddle bags from the yard between the morning and afternoon of May 14. Estimated damage and loss is $950.
Someone entered an unlocked gym locker at Oak Park and River Forest High School, the morning of May 11, and removed an Apple iPhone 4. Estimated loss is $200.
An unknown person removed a standing sander, a yellow Midor box and a concrete saw from the common area of a basement in the 1300 block of North Austin Boulevard, the morning of May 17. One man was seen placing the sander into the trunk of a grey Oldsmobile, while a second man was sitting in the front passenger seat of the vehicle. They fled south in an alley to westbound Berkshire Street. Estimated loss is $7,700.
The owner of a 1986 four-door Oldsmobile agreed to sell it to an unknown offender for $800. The victim accepted the money the afternoon of May 14 in the first block of Madison Street and handed the offender the title before realizing the money was counterfeit. The offender drove the car westbound on Madison Street from Austin Boulevard.
Someone used a pry-type tool to force entry into two vending machines outside the field house at Keystone Park in the 7900 block of Central Avenue, a River Forest Park District employee reported on the morning of May 15. About $75 was taken from one machine and $30 from the other. Estimated damage to the machines was $400.
An unknown person removed a grey Raleigh venture bike locked to the bike rack in the 300 block of Wisconsin Avenue between the night of May 10 and afternoon of May 16. Estimated loss is $375.
Burglary
An unknown person tried to gain entry to a residence in the 500 block of South Oak Park Avenue via a skylight, but no entry was gained. The skylight was pulled back and partially torn off and an air conditioner was damaged during the attempt overnight, May 14-15. Estimated damage is $3,800.
Someone broke a window to unlock the rear door of a residence in the 1500 block of North Austin Boulevard between the morning of May 9 and night of May 14. Once inside, the offender removed two televisions, a Dell Netbook computer, two e-readers and a video game system. Estimated loss is $2,173.
An unknown offender removed an Apple Macbook computer from a residence in the 400 block of North Oak Park Avenue, May 7-8. Estimated loss is $1,000.
Someone entered a locked residence in the 1200 block of North Edmer Avenue, the morning of May 16, and removed two Dell laptop computers, a Panasonic camera, miscellaneous jewelry and a green Land’s End bag. Estimated damage and loss is $1,600.
Three unknown offenders entered a residence in the 1100 block of Augusta Boulevard, the evening of May 16, by posing as ComEd employees. Once inside, they removed a gold and diamond ring, cash, a small refrigerator, Spaulding golf clubs and a Mixmaster mixer. They then exited and fled in an unknown direction. Estimated loss is $9,700.
An unknown person removed a bag containing a Hewlett Packard laptop computer from the rear seat of an unlocked Ford Taurus in the third floor of a parking structure at Concordia University, a student reported on the night of May 17. Estimated loss is $550.
Someone entered a residence in the 100 block of North Oak Park Avenue, the morning of May 15, ransacked the interior and removed a Banana Republic wallet, a Coach wallet, cash, and miscellaneous identification and gift cards. Estimated damage and loss is $508.
An unknown person entered a garage in the 900 block of South Oak Park Avenue, between the afternoon of May 16 and night of May 20, and removed two bicycles, a vacuum cleaner, hand tools and miscellaneous yard tools. Estimated damage and loss is $2,480.
Criminal damage to property
Police arrested a 14-year-old Oak Park boy, the evening of May 15, for his involvement in the spray painting of graffiti in southwest Oak Park on the weekend of May 11. Sgt. Michael Richardson said the boy’s parent became aware of his involvement and they came to the police station, where he was issued a local ordinance citation and released. He allegedly sprayed graffiti on two vehicles, a garage door, two stop signs and a fence in the 800 and 900 blocks of Harvard Street, the 900 and 1000 blocks of South Kenilworth Avenue and the 900 block of Clinton Avenue.
Someone used a BB projectile to break the glass of two windows in the 700 block of Madison Street between the evening of May 13 and the morning of May 17. Estimated damage is $1,000.
An unknown person damaged a fence on a rear yard in the 1000 block of Lyman Avenue, the evening of May 17, by breaking multiple wood panels off the fence. Estimated damage is $1,000.
A River Forest resident told police, the morning of May 14, that sections of plastic fencing were vandalized and broken at the Fenwick High School softball field. Estimated damage is $1,430.
Someone broke off the passenger’s side mirror of a 1996 Lexus overnight, May 18-19, while it was parked in the 400 block of South Ridgeland Avenue. The paint was also scratched on the passenger’s side door. Estimated damage is $1,000.
Possession of a controlled substance
A 29-year-old Norridge man was arrested, early May 20, and charged with possession of a controlled substance after the vehicle he was driving crashed into a tree in the 1000 block of Linden Avenue. Officers responded to the area and observed the silver Nissan Altima on the parkway with its front bumper damaged against the tree. The driver was slumped over and officers saw four small plastic bags and two tin foil packets containing a white powdery substance that tested positive for 1.1 grams of heroin. The driver was taken to West Suburban Hospital.
These items were obtained from the Oak Park and River Forest police departments, May 15-21, and represent a portion of the incidents to which police responded. Anyone named in these reports has only been charged with a crime and cases have not yet been adjudicated.
