River Forest police arrested two Chicago residents early Thursday morning outside a 7-Eleven they had just attempted to rob.
Police responded to the store at Division Street and Harlem Avenue at 1:20 a.m. and took Kirby Wise, 38, and Stephany Powell, 51, into custody as they tried to escape in an unoccupied car parked in the alley behind the store, police said.
An investigation revealed that Wise was unarmed but used a prop to pretend he was holding a weapon in order to get the store clerk to open the cash register. The two attempted to take $87 from the register as well as food items and cigarettes. Wise was on parole for a robbery at the time of the incident, and the Illinois Department of Corrections has since issued a no-bond parole warrant as a result of the arrest.
The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office approved Class 1 felony aggravated robbery charges against Wise and Powell. Both will appear at a bond hearing Friday at Maybrook courthouse.
