District 97 got word last week that the state has accepted its waiver application to continue allowing “competitive food sales” by PTOs and other groups at the middle schools. D97 reapplied last month for the waiver, which runs five years. The current five-year waiver expires in June.
The waiver allows for food sales on campus during the school day by non-school entities, such as parent groups. Without the waiver, such sales are prohibited. D97 groups such as CAST and BRAVO performing arts programs benefit from food sale fundraisers, including daily lunches sold by their respective PTOs, during the school year.
