Second Oak Park resident arrested in battery incident
A 20-year-old Oak Park man was arrested, the night of May 2, for his role in an aggravated battery incident last month that injured a 14-year-old boy.
The victim told police he knew a 17-year-old allegedly involved and later arrested in the April 17 incident, in which he was approached by five people in the 700 block of Lake Street. The boy was punched, kicked and struck with a tree branch. Police said he was taken to Oak Park Hospital with facial and orbital fractures and pupil damage.
The first alleged attacker was arrested for aggravated battery and mob action at Oak Park and River Forest High School on April 26. The 20-year-old was arrested in the 5900 block of West Madison Street in Chicago.
Theft
An unknown person removed a white 2003 Ford belonging to Loop Construction and Remodeling in Lyons, the morning of May 1, from a rear alley in the 1000 block of South Oak Park Avenue. The vehicle contained miscellaneous tools. Estimated loss is $25,000.
Someone broke into the bill dispenser housing of a Coca-Cola machine outside the Citgo station in the 300 block of Lake Street, April 30-May 1, and removed $25. Estimated damage and loss is $1,025.
Someone removed a MacBook Pro laptop computer from a desk inside an office in the 500 block of Madison Street, the afternoon of May 3. Estimated loss is $1,800.
An unknown person removed a 2007 black Cadillac Escalade from the first block of Pleasant Street, May 3-4. Estimated loss is $25,000.
An unknown person removed a wallet containing cash, a driver’s license and miscellaneous credit cards and papers from the YMCA in the 200 block of South Marion Street, the evening of May 6. Estimated loss is $270.
Someone removed a blue 2007 Toyota Yaris parked in the 400 block of South Kenilworth Avenue, May 5-6. Estimated loss is $8,000.
A female customer at Whole Foods Market in the 7300 block of Lake Street told a store employee on the afternoon of April 30 that an unknown man bumped into her shopping cart shortly before she noticed her wallet was missing from her purse, which was in the cart. The man had been interviewed by store employees around the same time because of his failure to pay for food he consumed. He was released prior to the woman’s report. Estimated loss includes a driver’s license, credit cards and $60 in cash. The wallet was later found on top of a garbage can in Oak Park without the cash.
Someone removed a blue and grey Yamaha scooter from the 200 block of South Maple Avenue, the early morning of May 7. Estimated loss is $600.
Burglary
Someone entered a garage in the 100 block of South Humphrey Avenue, April 30-May 1, and removed a red 28-inch Raleigh Detour bicycle and the Master Lock cable. Estimated loss is $440.
An unknown person entered an apartment in the 900 block of South Oak Park Avenue, the morning of May 1, and removed a camcorder, camera, laptop computer and $60. Estimated loss is $1,290.
Someone entered an apartment in the 900 block of Randolph Street between the morning and evening of May 1 and removed a Sentry safe containing a wedding ring, miscellaneous papers from the front room closet and $30 in change from a jar in the hallway. The offenders also removed $100 from another bedroom. Estimated loss is $280.
An unknown person entered an unlocked Toyota van in the 700 block of Clarence Avenue, May 1-2, and removed a bag containing baby toys and clothing, Toyota wireless headphones and $7 in coins. Estimated loss is $177.
An unknown person entered a residence in the 100 block of Forest Place, the night of May 2, and removed a Dell laptop computer, an Xbox system and a hunting knife from the living room. The offender then ransacked a jewelry box in the bedroom and removed three watches, a bracelet and a spare key to the apartment. Estimated loss is $1,765.
Someone entered an unlocked garage in the 300 block of South Taylor Avenue between the afternoons of April 19 and May 3 and removed an electric Black and Decker lawnmower and a push mower. Estimated loss is $230.
An unknown person entered an open garage in the 700 block of Lyman Avenue, May 3-4, and removed a black Magna mountain bicycle and a black and green Mongoose bicycle. Estimated loss is $375.
Someone entered a storage locker of a common basement area in the 900 block of Clinton Avenue between the mornings of May 2 and 4 by breaking the lock. Once inside, the offender removed a Samsung laptop computer and VCR. Estimated loss is $1,000.
An unknown person entered a storage locker in the common basement area of the 900 block of Clinton Avenue between the mornings of May 2 and 5 and removed a 26-piece alphabet dish set. Estimated loss is $200.
Someone entered a 2003 Jeep Liberty, the night of May 5, in the first block of Garfield Street, ransacked the interior and removed a black and red Craftsman socket set and a black and yellow DeWalt drill set. Estimated damage and loss is $600.
An unknown person entered a 2007 Hyundai Sonata in the 900 block of Wesley Avenue, the morning of May 6, ransacked the interior and removed a green and beige backpack containing photo albums and miscellaneous papers. Estimated damage and loss is $300.
Someone entered a 2006 Dodge Charger in the 900 block of Garfield Street, the morning of May 6, ransacked the interior and removed a black briefcase and a suit jacket. Estimated damage and loss is $355.
Someone entered a residence in the 200 block of LeMoyne Street between the afternoons of April 20 and May 6 and removed 6 feet of copper pipe from the water heater. Estimated loss is $150.
An unknown person removed a television, Wii game console, about $4,500 of jewelry and $100 in cash from a residence in the 1400 block of Harlem Avenue, the night of May 5.
Robbery
A cashier at the 7-Eleven store in the 200 block of Chicago Avenue told police that three offenders entered the store, the night of April 29, and one was armed with a handgun. Police stopped a 34-year-old Chicago man minutes later in the first block of Iow Street and the victim positively identified him. After further investigation, a 25-year-old Chicago man was arrested, the afternoon of May 1, in the 900 block of North Austin Boulevard. That man was charged with armed robbery after he was positively identified in a lineup on May 2.
A man riding the westbound Green Line train, around 9:30 p.m. on May 4, was approached by two offenders. One of them displayed a knife and demanded the man’s property while the second grabbed him from behind. The victim handed the first man $140, and the man stated, “Give it all up. I want them shoes.” The victim then gave the man his black leather jacket and his green Nike Air Force One gym shoes. The man removed the victim’s silver wristwatch and took his black suitcase. The offenders then exited the train at the Ridgeland stop and fled in an unknown direction. Estimated loss is $615.
These items were obtained from the Oak Park and River Forest police departments, May 1-7, and represent a portion of the incidents to which police responded. Anyone named in these reports has only been charged with a crime and cases have not yet been adjudicated.
