The Fenwick baseball team was eager to get back in the swing of things last week after being forced to cancel three games due to inclement weather.

The team responded by blasting Hales Franciscan 13-0 on Thursday, but falling to De La Salle 4-3 after nine innings on Saturday.

Against Hales, Fenwick took a 4-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back. A double by Drew Schroeder and a single by Nick Johnson drove in runs in the opening frame. Paul O’Toole finished 4-for-4 with an RBI in the win.

Joe Patzelt earned the shutout, yielding just three hits, walking none and striking out eight in five innings of work.

Fenwick got off to a fast start against De La Salle as well, scoring two in the first. But Pat Haynes homered in the top of the ninth to break a 3-3 tie and the Friars left a runner on second in the bottom half of the inning to close out the game.

The Friars (15-10) play every day this week but Friday. They travel to UIC to take on St. Ignatius on Saturday.
