The OPRF baseball team tuned up for their annual battle with conference rival Lyons Township by blasting Morton 11-1 last week.

Nick Kowalczuk provided the major damage offensively by finishing 3-for-4 with five RBIs. Jack Pichiotti, Charlie Fencik, Henry Cappel and John Hart all drove in runs as well for the Huskies, who plated 11 runs on eight hits.

The Huskies (15-3-1) scored early and often with three runs in the opening frame and two more in the second inning. After the Mustangs got on the board in the fourth to make the score 5-1, OPRF responded with a run in the sixth and five more in the seventh inning to transform the game into a rout.

On the mound, OPRF starter Colin O’Brien worked six effective innings with six strikeouts to earn the win.

After Saturday’s doubleheader vs. Lyons was cancelled due to inclement weather, the teams were scheduled to play early this week. Lyons is the reigning Class 4A State Champion after finishing 37-4 last season, capped off with a state finals win against Providence.

OPRF faces Addison Trail, Loyola and Downers North, also all road games filling up the latter part of this week’s schedule.
