In a weird way I feel Ted Nugent’s pain. He’s extremely frustrated that President Obama might be re-elected. I have the same strong feelings, but exactly the opposite. I really want Obama to be re-elected. I like the guy as a person. His youth, intelligence and genuiness resonate with me. He is the best we’re going to get given our fractured, toxic political system. I don’t care if he is a Muslim socialist born in Africa I’ll vote for him in November. Given the deep blue of Illinois, there’s not much I can do to get Barack re-elected. I’m just not willing to go to Indiana this fall and try to convict some undecided Hoosier to vote for him.
Here’s my problem. I don’t know if I can stand more than six months of listening to the candidates and their campaigners blather over trivialities about Romney’s dog and Obama’s whoring secret service detail. Truth will be a daily casualty of the campaign warfare. Strategy will trump policy every time.
Almost every day there is a report that makes me yell at the TV. An inanimate object. Unlike Ted Nugent I don’t have guns or a crossbow, but I’m worried I will write something that will get me fired from the newspaper. Then I would have to post under a fake name, and that would be embarrassing.
The solution? Political hibernation. Bears go into a cave for the winter, and come out ready for spring. Remember Rip Van Winkle? He fell asleep for 20 years missing what happened in the interim. So starting today I’ll skip the stories in the Tribune and Newsweek about the campaign, and just change the TV and radio channels. I’ll be uninformed, but so what, I’m voting for Barack even if it turns out Romney is Jesus incarnate, which by the way is not likely since he is a Mormon. But the Lord does work in mysterious ways.
When my friends want to mentally masterbate over how awful the Republicans are , I’ll just leave the room, or go with ” How ’bout them Cubs?” or “Do you ever think about dying.”
See you in November. Politically speaking.
