Some River Forest residents who want access to Oak Park pools this summer will be provided vouchers to get a discount, park district officials from both villages said.

The Park District of Oak Park will be providing a $15 discount for River Forest residents who buy pool passes to use facilities at Rehm Park and Ridgeland Common, or up to $60 for a family, said Bill Hamilton, assistant superintendent of revenue facilities. Before the sale period ends on May 5, River Foresters can buy non-resident passes for $65 instead of $80, Hamilton said. The PDOP would then be reimbursed by the River Forest Park District.

Mike Sletten, executive director of the RFPD, said River Forest has had a similar agreement with the Forest Park Aquatic Facility for some time. Forest Park provides a discount for the first 150 River Forest residents who apply, and that will still be in effect this summer. The number of residents served will be about the same for River Forest residents in Oak Park, Sletten said.

Hamilton said this agreement is the first of its kind between the two park districts, and has been in the works since RFPD approached Oak Park last fall. No guarantees are being made for the summer of 2013 just yet because of the renovation at Ridgeland Common.

River Forest residents can pick up their vouchers for two weeks starting May 1, Sletten said. Those who don’t redeem them will be put on a waitlist.
