David Norris, 60, died on Jan. 29, 2012, surrounded by his family. Born on Sept. 8, 1951, to Edward and Margaret (Meany) Norris in Oak Park, he attended St. Giles Elementary School and continued his education at Oak Park and River Forest High School, where he was a standout athlete in football.
He attended Northern Illinois University for two years before joining the Marine Corps Reserve where he attained the rank of staff sergeant before being honorably discharged. He worked at Protection One until his retirement in 2009.
An active volunteer, family members described him as “a source of hope to others.”
David Norris is survived by his wife, Linda (Aikens), whom he married in 1978; his twin sons, David (Andrea) and Joseph (Amanda Maschmeier); his brothers, Michael (Barb), Edward (Lynn), Jeff (Janine) and Tom (Teri); his sisters, Mary Jo Delihant, Julie Norris and Margaret Norris; his father-in-law, Jack Aikens; his sister-in-law, Sharon Nistchneider; his brother-in-law, Jack (Mary) Aikens; and many other relatives and friends. Preceding him in death are his mother-in-law, Marie Aikens, and his sister, Kathy Norris.
A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Luke Church in River Forest on Jan. 31. After the service, the family greeted guests at Drechsler, Brown & Williams Funeral Home, followed by a eulogy. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the family are appreciated.
