Money taken from River Forest gas station manager
An unknown man took more than $1,000 in cash from the manager of the Shell gas station in the 7200 block of North Avenue, Jan. 17.
The manager told police she had just walked to her car from her office and was carrying a bag with the weekend receipts for deposit when the man grabbed the bag. The manager was thrown to the ground and the bag tore open, spreading the cash all over the ground, police said.
The man grabbed a large amount of the cash from the ground and ran to a waiting car in the alley north of the station.
The car, driven by a second person who was not seen, fled westbound in the alley.
Residential burglary
Someone broke the rear basement window of a residence in the 600 block of Forest Avenue Jan. 15 and removed about $450 in cash.
An unknown person entered a residence in the 1100 block of South Harvey Avenue Jan. 17 and removed an iMac laptop computer, an Apple iPad and miscellaneous jewelry. Estimated loss is $8,800.
Someone removed a black, 32-inch Acer touch screen computer with the attached monitor from the common computer area inside a residential building in the 1000 block of Pleasant Place Jan. 17-18. Estimated loss is $1,500.
An unknown person entered an unlocked basement door to a residence in the 800 block of Lyman Avenue Jan. 20 and removed a black Dell laptop computer and a silver Apple iPod touch. Loss amount is unknown.
Theft
An unknown person removed a black and pink wallet from a purse hanging on the back of a chair inside a business in the 700 block of Lake Street, Jan. 15. The wallet contained cash, a driver’s license, credit cards and blank checks. Estimated loss is $380.
A Chicago man was arrested Jan. 17 for retail theft at Dominick’s in the 200 block of Lake Street. A loss-prevention agent recognized the 42-year-old man, who allegedly stole $446 worth of acid reflux medication from the store on Jan. 12.
Someone removed car keys and a tan leather purse from inside a woman’s office in the 1000 block of Lake Street, Jan. 17. The offender then used the keys to remove the woman’s silver 2008 Pontiac G6, which was parked in the rear of the building. Estimated loss is $21,100.
An unknown person entered a garage in the 100 block of South Humphrey Avenue, Jan. 18-19, and removed a green men’s 19-inch Specialized Expedition bicycle. Estimated loss is $1,300.
Someone removed the red and black Troy Bilt snowblower from the garage of a residence in the 100 block of North Ridgeland Avenue, Jan. 21. Estimated loss is $450.
An unknown person entered an unsecured locker at Fitness Formula in the 1100 block of Lake Street, Jan. 19, and removed a black wallet with credit cards, identification and $20 in cash. Estimated loss is $100.
A 15-year-old Chicago boy was arrested, Jan. 19, for allegedly taking an Apple iPod Touch from a 17-year-old girl on Jan. 5, and a cellphone from a 16-year-old girl on Jan. 18. Both thefts occurred while the victims, both of Oak Park, were outside in the 100 block of North Humphrey Avenue, police said. The boy, who was arrested in the 5900 block of West Race Avenue in Chicago, knew both victims.
Someone entered an unlocked locker at the YMCA in the 200 block of South Marion Street, Jan. 20, and removed clothing and a black wallet containing debit and credit cards and identification. Estimated loss is $114.
Burglary to motor vehicle
Someone entered a blue Toyota Highlander parked in the 400 block of South Grove Avenue, Jan. 13-16, and removed a black Garmin GPS unit. Estimated damage and loss is $300.
An unknown person entered a red 2006 Toyota Prius parked in the rear of the 500 block of North Humphrey Avenue, Jan. 16-17, and ransacked the center console. Estimated loss is $200.
Criminal damage to property
Someone entered an apartment in the 1200 block of North Taylor Avenue, Jan. 16, and removed the inside lock on the front door. Estimated loss is $60.
An unknown man was seen in the basement game room of a condo building in the 100 block of Linden Avenue, Jan. 12, by a resident of the building. The resident heard banging on the front door and noticed damage to the door frame and metal gate. Estimated damage is $325.
An unknown person entered a garage in the 300 block of North Scoville Avenue, Jan. 18, and broke the passenger’s side window on a 2002 Honda. Estimated loss is $150.
Someone broke the driver’s side window of a blue 2001 Dodge Caravan parked in a lot in the 6900 block of North Avenue, Jan. 19-20. Estimated damage is $285.
An unknown person broke two outside panes of glass on a residence in the 300 block of North Elmwood Avenue, Jan. 16-20. Estimated loss is $175.
Incomplete credit cards
A 41-year-old Chicago man, stopped for a traffic violation on Jan. 18, was charged with possession of incomplete credit cards after a search of his vehicle revealed he had 27 incomplete credit cards in plain view. He was also charged with driving with a suspended license and no proof of insurance.
Driving under the influence
The 26-year-old driver of a car that had driven off the roadway in the 8200 block of Lake Street was arrested for driving under the influence, Jan. 20. The driver, David Delgado of Chicago, presented signs of intoxication, police said. His passenger, 22-year-old Pedro Juarez of Chicago, became combative to police and was charged with aggravated assault to an officer and resisting arrest.
A 44-year-old Cicero man was arrested and charged with aggravated driving under the influence, Jan. 22, after police stopped him in the 400 block of North Austin Boulevard for a traffic violation. Police observed an open beer can in the cup holder of the 2004 Ford Focus driven by Ricardo Hernandez. His blood alcohol level was 0.275, more than three times the legal limit of .08.
These items were obtained from the Oak Park and River Forest police departments, Jan. 17-23, and represent a portion of the incidents to which police responded. Anyone named in these reports has only been charged with a crime and cases have not yet been adjudicated.
